Missions is something that is vitally important to us here at First Baptist Church. It is our heart to fulfill the great commission that Jesus set before us in Matthew 28:19-20 when He said, "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age."
We know that missions involves both our community and the world. It is important that we strive to have a balance of these and reach those in our back yard as well as some we will never see until we reach heaven.
One avenue that we are involved with stateside is through the North American Mission Board and World Changers. Multiple summers, students from FBC have spent a week at a time in different locations, providing labor for construction projects to help with renovations on homes. During this time, they share the gospel with the homeowners by both words and actions. They also spend time each day walking through neighborhoods, sharing the gospel with other families that live nearby.
On the international level, FBC has missionaries that are directly from our congregation serving in the Kano province of Nigeria. Terry and Sue Hammack have been faithful members of First Baptist Church while also faithful to the people of Cano. They continue to teach the gospel to the people there and have a ministry that is reaching many.
Not only are we serving in these capacities, but it is our hope to send a team from FBC, in the near future, across the globe to work with international missionaries in reaching the lost with the gospel of Jesus Christ. It is our sincere hope that you too would catch the vision we have for missions and join in our cause to impact the world! |
